Regarding room options, I would recommend the Deluxe Rooms facing the lake. Since this is a historic property, the Standard (or Fairmont Rooms in this case) and definitely on the smaller side. The extra space in the Deluxe Rooms would make for a much more comfortable stay. If you’re willing to splurge the Fairmont Gold Rooms are worth considering…The Gold Concierge teams provide exemplary service.

My vote for a truly great hotel goes to the Taj Mahal, Bombay (known officially as Mumbai)…Definitely ask for a room in the Old Wing, and for preference facing the sea. The best room for me is 502 (ie on the 5th / Club Floor with acess to the Club Lounge which also has a wonderful view of the Arabian Sea). Make sure you catch the sunrises and sunsets!

It is a great hotel. And if you are already in a different hotel, I recommend to go there for breakfast or a coffee because they have a great view on the water.

Old wing is called the Palace. The newer (and frankly uninspiring) part is the Tower. The best bets in the Palace are the suites - which have details such as twin Victorian bathtubs. The standard rooms in the Palace are, unfortunately, a bit poky.

Huka Lodge in Taupo…along with Kauri Cliffs in the Far North, this is the best place in New Zealand to stay. Frankly, if any lodge can be considered perfect in the world, it would be Huka Lodge, for many reasons. Food, service, rooms, setting, activities, interesting guests, etc…You hear a lot about Blanket Bay near (a word used advisedly in this context) Queenstown, but it’s not even close to the quality of Huka Lodge. Splurge and spend at least 2 nights there. You will never forget it.

Hmmm…a huge contrast to our stay there during the Grammy awards, when our non-celebrity status demoted us to the room beneath the gym (thud thud thud from 6am onwards) and breakfast offered on a coffee table in the lobby (reservations only in the dining room). The wait for the valet parking was interminable and any hope of attracting the attention of hotel staff was best dismissed…Hugely disappointing.

My favourite hotel in Paris is Le Bristol on the Rue Faubourg St Honore. Recently renovated, it is now as up to date as well as exquisite. Owned by the Oetker family rather than a big chain, it retains has an individual feel. At it’s heart is a lovely garden cafe which is one of the nicest spots in Paris.

I definitely agree, the Bristol is one of the most heart warming parisian hotel[s] by far. My advice concerning the place is to enjoy their delicious french pastry at tea time as well as their “thés à la mode” that mix it with a fashion show.

The rooms were huge. Four-poster bed, fireplace, wooden floors, enormous bathroom with double vanities, makeup vanity, claw-footed tub, indoor rain-shower, outdoor rain-shower, two-level outdoor deck, and there was even a living room and a guest bathroom…The Breakfast and lunch buffets back at the camps were good. But the dinners were terrific. One of the best features about Singita is that all of the alcohol is included in your daily rate. And normally that wouldn’t be a big deal. However, Singita has one of the world’s finest cellars for South African wines. It’s really quite a treat. The cellar is open at any time during the day for anyone who wants to do a tasting or select a bottle for dinner. They also have a humidor stocked with an excellent selection of Cuban cigars, which, like the wines, are also included in your daily room rate.

They have 33,000 acres of private game viewing in Sabi Sands, more than twice the size of the next largest private reserve…If you can get into one of the 8 suites in Rattray’s, it’s definitely the way to go. The rooms at Rattray’s were very luxurious (fully air-conditioned) villas that rivaled kind of deluxe suites you might find at a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons…The game viewing at Rattray’s was excellent. They pair you up with a Ranger and a Tracker and only one other couple. Whereas most Safari lodges in South Africa will put 6 people with each Ranger/Tracker.…The food at Rattray’s was really terrific. I was actually surprised and just assumed that I would starve. I tend to be a very picky eater, but everything was absolutely delicious.
